Visit Brodsworth Hall, The House That Time Forgot

Peter Thellusson, a Swiss banker, bought Brodsworth Hall in 1790. He passed in 1797 and willed the estate to his unborn heirs. The family attempted to fight the will and lost. Charles Sabine inherited the property in 1859. He demolished the original Georgian home and built the 19th Century Victorian country house in 1863. By the time the home was passed to Charles Grant-Dalton, it was in need of repair but funds were not available. Rooms were closed and servants were let go. Charles passed in 1952; his widow Silvia remained at Brodsworth Hall for another 30 years until her death. Silvia continued to close down rooms and had one remaining servant, yet she dressed for dinner in the formal dining room every night.
