I tried. They FREAK OUT. My understanding is there was an agreement with someone who had provided money for something and in exchange had all photo rights. The agreement period ended and they kept the no photo policy so we all purchase photos in the gift shop :/

I was on a tour as well, it’s worth it to skip lines and have someone taking you directly to must see spots!

I didn’t know you couldn’t take photos of the Sistine Chapel though, that is a shame although of course seeing it is special enough!

Sending the postcard is a fun experience for the kids. We purchased our tickets in advance and hired a guide through our hotel. We were so fortunate to be able to skip the lines and move through the masses.

We also stopped by at night to see the square with no one there, recommend doing that for sure
