A Beautiful Day Trip to Bamberg Germany
It is difficult to determine how to best use 24 hours in Bamberg Germany, there are so many fun things to see, do, and eat. Bamberg is a Bavarian city with a fairytale atmosphere. The city is Insta-Famous for its town hall and is a great stop while exploring the fairytale tale towns of Bavaria. You will also find red sagging rooftops, half-timber homes, flower boxes, shutters, frescoes, little windows with roofs, metal signage, a castle, canals, and smoky beer. This day trip itinerary is jam-packed with must-see sites and top attractions, including, Bamberg Cathedral, Hofhaltung, Neue Residenz, Klein Venedig, Altes Rathaus, and more. Day Trip Itinerary for Bamberg Germany
6:30 am Take to 6:56 am train to Bamberg from Munich Hauptbahnhof. Arrive in Bamberg at 8:40 am. Take the Line 901 bus to the Bamberg Cathedral, the bus runs every 30 minutes. Visit Bamberg Cathedral and photograph the Bamberg Horseman. After visiting the cathedral, exit and walk to the right to Hofhaltung. This is the courtyard used to film one of the duel scenes from the 2011 version of The Three Musketeers. Cross the road and tour Neue Residenz. Be sure to stop in the rose garden and check out the view of the sagging rooftops.
12 pm Exit the square and walk down the hill to the Regnitz River. Turn to the right and follow the path photographing the riverside homes of Klein Venedig. Stop at Schlenkerla for lunch. Order a Bamberger Zwiebel (grilled onion stuffed with mincemeat) and smoked beer. Stop in Café am Dom for a smoked beer praline for dessert. Photograph the half-timber homes in the area and browse the shops for souvenirs.
3 pm Continue on to Altes Rathaus and photograph it from all angles. Walk across Kettenbrücke and add your love lock on the way back to the train station. Walk back to the train station (25-minute walk) for the 5:04 pm train back to Munich and arrive at 7:03 pm. Or, spend the night and visit Nuremberg tomorrow.
