We had heard about the island, but never knew there were so many movies filmed there or that it has a bison population. Would love to head out there next time we make it to LA–the views look amazing and it sounds like a nice relaxing break from the busy city. The adventures sound wonderful, too! I’d love to go paddle boarding or kayaking there!

The kelp diving was once a great option but since El Nino the warm water has killed much of it and invasive species have moved in. They are shorter and it’s not the same experience. However there are still lots of Garabaldi. There’s also more than Avalon to experience – Two Harbors is a wonderful destination if you want to connect with the real Catalina. It’s a great bus ride across the island or short hop by boat.
