On July 4, 2018, I met an elderly Catholic priest at Fatima, Portugal. He was Portuguese who had served as a priest in Canada and the USA. At the start of his life in the USA, he had visited Death Valley in 1954. During his trip through Death Valley, he said, “I didn’t think we were going to make it!” What were the roads and facilities like in 1954? It would be interesting to see pictures!

Death Valley is super high on my list of National Parks that I want to visit! I’m obsessed with desert landscapes, mountains and rock formations. This seems to have it all! I’d never heard of Artist’s Palette. It looks incredible! I’m dying to see the Natural Bridge Canyon! Thanks for sharing!

That makes me so happy! I drove up the day before and stayed in Lone Pine. I checked out Mt Whitney and drove around Alabama Hills that day. Went into the park before sunrise the next day and only made it through half of it, and that was very rushed. I left on the Nevada side and stayed in Beatty that night. If you do this route don’t miss Goldwell Open Air Museum and Nevadas abandoned plane. Kinda fun!

My partner and I are both from SoCal but we’ve never been to Death Valley. Like you, we always figured it was more of the same dessert views. I basically just read your whole post to him and showed him your pictures, and now we really want to go! Thanks for sharing about it 😀
