Thx for the reminder of what a crazy drive the road to Hana is. My husband had driven it when we visited years ago. I’d forgotten just how scary it can be. But I hadn’t forgotten how beautiful it is. That will stay with me forever.

We did this with a tour two years ago…it was a smaller vehicle and I really enjoyed the drive. No way could I have driven that road! Beautiful photos!

Stunning photos of greens and blues! I think taking the tour is also a great option, though renting a car would be great I usually don’t when I am traveling, taking into consideration risks and liabilities. Maybe if someone else drives! What’s great about driving around on your own is you can take your time to enjoy the view- as long as you want. 🙂

Hmm this may not be the trip for me – i suffer from severe motion sickness so would be puking all the way! An additional plus for drive yourself is the chance to stop more frequently to vomit in the fresh air! I pity my parents when we took coastal roads on family holidays, it was grim! Is it possible to hike alongside the road or to get to some of the places on foot?

Insane and insanely beautiful. That describes it well. I would definitely be up for the tour rather than self driving. We’ve done scary roads in the Cevennes in France and it’s terrifying. But insanely beautiful. Sorry you missed Rainbow Falls, your tips for which tour company to use are really helpful.

sometimes these mad journeys are well worth it because when you get to the destination you have a story to tell. I could relate to this so much from various trips I took in Central and South America, especially some very dicey roads in Bolivia.

That would be awesome. It’s nicknamed the divorce road so maybe make an extra effort to not gasp or get after him too much 😉
