Visit Brodsworth Hall, The House That Time Forgot
Peter Thellusson, a Swiss banker, bought Brodsworth Hall in 1790. He passed in 1797 and willed the estate to his unborn heirs. The family attempted to fight the will and lost. Charles Sabine inherited the property in 1859. He demolished the original Georgian home and built the 19th-century Victorian country house in 1863. By the time the home was passed to Charles Grant-Dalton, it needed repair but funds were not available. Rooms were closed and servants were let go. Charles passed in 1952; his widow Silvia remained at Brodsworth Hall for another 30 years until her death. Silvia continued to close down rooms and had one remaining servant, yet she dressed for dinner in the formal dining room every night.

Silvia’s daughter Pamela inherited the property in 1988 and passed Brodsworth Hall to English Heritage in 1990. The rooms have been reopened and preserved “as found”. As a result, when you Brodsworth Hall you will find the home has its original furnishings, carpets, and wallpaper. Step into a 1919 time capsule in the original ‘below stairs’ servant quarters and kitchen. See children’s rooms reopened how they were left in 1930. There is also an impressive billiards room and entrance hall of Italian marble.
While the interior has been preserved, the gardens have been restored. Walk under the pergola, explore the rose garden, and see the statues, fountains, and grotto when you visit Brodsworth Hall. Relax with a cup of tea on the terrace, have a picnic on the lawn, or play a game of croquet. Brodsworth Hall is 1.5 hours from London outside Doncaster Yorkshire England.
