Luxor Hotel & Casino

The Luxor is a 30-story pyramid topped with a light beam seen throughout the city. This Egyptian-themed hotel is a 4-star property with 4,407 rooms, including 442 suites. It is a replica of the Pyramid of Khafre in Giza Egypt and boosts the largest Atrium in the world.  Most of the Egyptian themes have been removed; only a 10-story tall Sphinx in the front of the property and a small city replica remain. Note, that Luxor is named the most haunted resort on the Strip. There are two theories about this. One is the spirits were attached to the artifacts brought into the hotel. The other is that several workers died during construction and the hotel covered up their deaths. Book your stay!

The Excalibur is a budget-friendly 3-star property with 3.981 rooms. The property features a medieval castle theme and is named after King Arthur’s mythical Excalibur sword. There is a Go Las Vegas Explorer if you plan to go to a lot of paid attractions. Food in Vegas can be expensive. Join Casino Player’s Clubs for coupons and take advantage of happy hour specials. Group On is also a great source of Vegas deals. Never pay full price for a hotel in Vegas, check for deals online. Be aware, that the casinos on the strip charge a ‘resort fee’, read the fine print. Casinos have also begun charging for parking.

The Las Vegas Strip is 4 miles long and the casinos on the Strip are huge. They are not as close as they appear and you will be doing a lot of walking on your Las Vegas casino hopping adventure. Las Vegas has a monorail that offers a daily rate. The Duece bus runs the length of the Strip to Fremont Street, it also has a daily rate and runs every 15 minutes. There are free trams between Bellagio-City Center-Monte Carlo, Excalibur-Luxor-Mandalay Bay, and Treasure Island-Mirage. There is also a Hop on Hop off bus.

Be sure to check out Fremont Street and Las Vegas street art scene while you are in town.  Vegas is full of quirky stops. Off the strip Las Vegas things to do include the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop, Pinball Hall of Fame, Elvis Museum, Clown Factory, Wayne Newton’s Casa De Shenandoah, Ethel M Chocolate Factory, A Little White Wedding Chapel, or a helicopter ride over the city at night. There are great day tours from the area. Death Valley National Park is beautiful!  Hoover Dam and Grand Canyon West are close by and exploring Area 51 is a fun way to spend a day.
