I loved Game of Thrones and I always wondered what they were drinking in those goblets. Come to find out, mead. Mead is the oldest alcohol in the world and it is making a comeback. Because of its honey base, mead is often referred to as honey wine. Fruits and spices are added to create various styles. Mead is naturally gluten-free and a great alternative for beer lovers. But, be aware the alcohol content of mead is higher than beer and ranges from 5 to 13.5 percent.
There is a range of mead styles. Meadiocrity has 15 meads on tap ranging from traditional mead to beer, chardonnay, and cocktail-inspired meads. The owners began as beer brewers, winemakers, and beekeepers. Meadiocrity’s meads are made with local honey from Palomar Mountain and Valley Center.
