Peles Castle sits in Transylvania Romania's Carpat Peles Castle sits in Transylvania Romania's Carpathian Mountains. The Royal family went into exile in 947 and the castle was confiscated by the Communist party. At one point the Communist Party wanted to transform the Castle into a residence for protocol. Plans stopped after they were told the Castle had a wood fungus harmful to humans. The castle was closed to the public between 1975-1990. After the 1989 revolution the Castle was returned to the family and then back to the state. They were planted in 1775 and some are 250 years old. It is said they are haunted and would be a fun spot for Halloween.
