Maine’s Route 1 is 3,478 miles of rocky coast with over 65 lighthouses and 23 islands full of picture-perfect fishing villages and lobster shacks. I did this route in six days and that was not enough time to explore all the area has to offer. Maine’s best lighthouses, lobster shacks, and fishing villages are listed for reference while creating your road trip on Maine’s Route 1, the Downeast Hwy. Be sure to add itinerary time for Portland Maine and Acadia National Park.
