Casino Hop on the Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas casino hopping is the best way to experience the Las Vegas Strip. Vegas is America’s Playground and is full of glitz and glamour. Wander 4.5 miles of extravagance to see how the nickname Fabulous Las Vegas came to be.  You will find neon lights, gondola rides, fountain shows, a dolphin habitat, a Ferris Wheel, a roller coaster, shark diving, botanical gardens, zip lines, a giant sphinx, a castle, replicas of the Statue of Liberty, Trevi Fountain, and Eiffel Tower. Casino hopping is #1 of the Top 10 things to do in Las Vegas. Check out my Ultimate Guide to Las Vegas Casino Hopping on the Strip and don’t miss a thing!

Take a Selfie with the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

Taking a selfie with the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is at the top of the list of things to do in Las Vegas for first-time visitors. You will find the Welcome to Las Vegas sign on the south end of Las Vegas Blvd close to Mandalay Bay.  The sign was designed by Betty Willis in 1959 and has become one of the most popular attractions in Vegas. Prepare to wait in a long line for your turn to get a selfie with this landmark.

See a World-Class Show

“I go to Vegas for the shows”. It may sound cliche but Las Vegas is known for its world-class entertainment and seeing a show is my favorite thing to do while in town. Wayne Newton, the Rat Pack, and Showgirls in elaborate costumes with huge headdresses, crystals ad feathers once dominated the strip. Vegas entertainment evolved to include variety shows, magicians, and circus performers in the 1990s. Today, Cirque du Soleil, Blue Man Group, Penn and Teller, Chris Angel, Carrot Top, and David Copperfield all have resident shows in Vegas. You will also find Broadway shows, impersonators, and burlesque. You can still experience the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Showgirl at Vegas! The Show.

Visit Fremont Street in Downtown Las Vegas

Fremont Street’s light canopy show is not to be missed and is a must-see Las Vegas attraction. This pedestrian-only street is home to the Las Vegas of the past. You will find neon lights, vendors, musicians, and street performers. While downtown stop in the Mob Museum to learn about organized crime in America, listen to old wiretaps, and shoot a Tommy Gun. Next, visit the Neon Museum and check out the old marquees from the 1950 to 1980s.  Then do some shopping in recycled shipping containers at the Container Park. Plan your time downtown with my Downtown Las Vegas Fremont Street Guide.

Eat at a Celebrity Chef Restaurant

Gone are the days of .99 shrimp cocktails and $9.99 Prime Rib dinners. The celebrity chefs have moved in and Vegas is now a foodie’s heaven. Don’t miss Cut by Wolfgang Puck and David Chang’s Momfuku; be sure to make reservations. Vegas buffets are world famous and many well-known eateries now have space on the Las Vegas strip. You will find the best of whatever you are craving in Las Vegas. Refer to my Las Vegas Foodie Guide, Top 10 Restaurants on the Las Vegas Strip for suggestions.

Attend a Legendary Concert

Las Vegas has had resident performers since Liberace in the 1940s. There is always a headliner playing in Las Vegas. You can hear Dianna Ross, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Rod Stewart, Lady Gaga, Santana, Cher, Shania Twain, Gwen Stephani, David Lee Roth, Billy Idol and so many more… Viva Las Vegas!

Party the Day and Night Away

One of the best things to do in Las Vegas is to hang out poolside with a cocktail. Dayclubs are hot in Vegas… think champagne showers, DJs, and inflated flamingos. Try Daylight, Kaos, Jemaa, Marquee, Wet Republic, and Tao Beach. Although every hotel on the Las Vegas Strip hosts pool parties, Encore Beach at the Cosmopolitan is the star. Las Vegas is also known for its nightlife, craft cocktails, mixologists, renowned DJs, VIP lounges, elaborate dance floors, and celebrity-hosted parties. The glitz and glamour of Vegas at night is all around you. Not sure where to start? Head to Apex Social Club, TAO, OMNIA, Hakkasan, Drai’s, XS, Light, Marquee, Intrigue, Kaos, 1OAK, Jewel, or EBC at Night.

Tempt Lady Luck on a Casino Floor

The sound of coins hitting metal is long gone but slot machines, blackjack, roulette, craps, poker, and Pai Gow remain. Want to gamble but don’t know how? Many casinos offer gaming lessons to learn the rules, strategy, and etiquette of table games. Be sure to join the casino players club for discounts and incentives. I hope Lady Luck is on your side!

Explore the Arts District

Las Vegas has an incredible street art scene to be explored. The Arts District is a good place to start. The area is also in the process of becoming a beer district with four breweries moving in. The monthly First Friday Arts Festival is popular. Check out my Las Vegas Street Art post.

Take a Day Trip

Get out of the city and enjoy the desert. Work off all that amazing food you ate and give your wallet a break. Hike the wave in the Valley of Fire, kayak Black Canyon’s Emerald Cove, drive the scenic loop at Red Rock Canyon, tour Hoover Dam, hunt for aliens at Area 51, stand on the edge of the Grand Canyon or at the lowest point in North America in Death Valley National Park.
